Our intrepid auxiliary members, Major Jonas Junquebucket and Captain Thaddeus Thicketristle (”Tadger” for short) have been called upon to represent Mr. Phileas Fogg’s team in a rough and tumble town of Albany, California. The town is about to celebrate its centennial, and has called upon J&T (as they are known by hundreds of their fans…most of whom being small, uneducated children) to protect the ceremony with their usual heroism.

“It is an honor,” exclaimed Junquebucket at the news, “an honor, I say. Mwuh-HA! Yes, ol’ Tadger and I will knock any simpering villain off of their rocker if they dare raise their ugly heads in our vicinity! Mwuh-HA!”

Many have speculated as to what villain has chosen to threaten the festivities. Is it the Nefarious Wu-Syn of China? Is it the ancient Egyptian mummy Ra-Ma-Hoo-Hah-Tep?

Is it the American masterminds Tiberius & Wysteria Frost (who once challenged J&T in the now infamous Great Race of London)?

Who can say?

Not I…all this intrepid reporter hopes is that J&T give them a good “jolly what for”!

J&T hope to be accompanied by their usual entourage of dedicated colleagues…including Prof. Phineas J. Flockmocker III, F.H.S.G.!

The City of Albany’s Centennial Celebrations

Mr. Phileas Fogg has declined to make any statements about the affair.

Thanks to the tenacious actions of Professors Perry and Flockmocker, the members of Legion Fantastique have harnessed the power of T.S.S. (Time Storm Streaming)! Captain Nemo, Princess Aouda, Agent J. Strockand Amelia Peabody ventured into the dark future of 2008 in search of the mysterious Michel Dufrénoy - a Parisian author who has managed to send dozens of T.S.S. Telegraphs warning Legion Fantastique about how their actions may shape the world!

Nemo’s team found themselves allied with the crew of the the fabled NeverWas Haul in a small town called San Mateo…at a gathering of minds called the Maker’s Fair. Apparently, they we able to successfully attach a T.S.S. conduit to the NeverWas Haul’s engine and get both teams home - safe and sound. Before they left, however, they acquired photographic evidence of the marvels they witnessed at the fair.

The Legionnaires were unable to find Michel Dufrénoy, and it is feared that the prophetic author passed away in the year 1960.

Perhaps in a future journey, they may be able to save Dufrénoy from Paris in the 20th century.

While stranded in the 21st century, Fogg and The Legionnaires were captured on something called a “pod-caste”. These horrible devices seem to be embedded on the arms, thighs and breast pockets on thousands of future residents of San Francisco. Prof. Perry, and a 21st century tinkerer known only as “Doc”, managed to discern some of the coded materials planted in these “Eye Pods”. One can only hope that this evidence may prevent these mechanical demons from taking over the world.

Yes! Once again, the survivors of the ill-fated Fogg/Liddenbrock Expedition to the center of the earth will be presenting evidence that dinosaurs have survived these many millions of years!

The evidence, in the form of photographs, testimonials and live specimens, will be presented in the presence of the Neverwas Haul at the Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA, May 3rd!

Prepare to me amazed by new evidence that we are no longer the rulers of this planet!

Phileas Fogg and his Legionnaires recently made a third attempt at a journey to the center of the earth with the hopes of recovering “lost” members of their previous endeavor. During an altercation involving one of Captain Robur’s newest inventions, a time storm was activated and our heroes were thrown into the year 2008. Not only had they been transported through time, but they found themselves in the very core of sin and depravity - San Francisco!

On their arrival, they found themselves at a bizarre religious gathering known as WonderCon! They were surrounded by thousands of strange beings including weather controlling soldiers in white armor, vendors of colorful religious icons and tomes, and someone called “Big Boy” (who saved our famished heroes by feeding them a copious amount of cheeseburgers).

There were many great heads of state and religious leaders recruiting followers or peddling their images to the downtrodden masses. One cultist named Ernie Fosselius seemed enthusiastic in aiding our heroes, but was unable to accomplish much with his vacuum cleaner and hand puppets. Fogg had a chance encounter with a strange man named “The Doctor”, whom Fogg believed he had encountered twice before while working as an adviser at the newly established Torchwood Institute.

After sor L.F.I.C.everal hours of asking for help from the citizens of this horrible world, Prof. Perry (the latest addition to the crew of Legion Fantastique’s “Steamship Alpha”) arrived with his temporal backpack. After fueling “Perry’s Pack” with something called a “G.I. Joe” and a volatile liquid called “Diet Pepsi”, The Legionnaires were able to punch a hole in the fabric of time and space and return to the 19th Century!

On their return, Fogg has sworn to try and guide humanity away from the state he found it in.

State Senator Leland Yee Ph.D., under pressure from the Daly City Council, is proposing to “surplus” the Cow Palace and sell it to Daly City. Daly City will then sell most of the land to condo developers and pocket the profits. Letter writing WILL stop this. Senator Yee has ONLY heard from Daly City. Let him know you oppose selling the Cow Palace!!!

The Cow Palace is the home of Legion Fantastique’s main theatrical venue - The Dickens Christmas Fair.

This bill wrongly proposes to SELL the Cow Palace to Daly City!

We must defeat SB1527 or the Dickens Fair will likely die. It would take years, if it’s even possible, to relocate and resurrect the Dickens Fair. Red Barn Productions has studied all the venues that could physically host the Dickens Fair and there are NO other places that currently work. All are either too expensive, too small, are unavailable between Thanksgiving and Christmas OR require overly expensive retrofits in order to be permitted for public assembly. So, Save the Cow Palace and Save The Dickens Fair. It’s that simple AND serious.

The Cow Palace has a perfectly good plan to meet the needs of the local community and Daly City by providing them 13 acres of its’ unused land. Yes, rock concerts bring public problems, according to Daly City, but they also bring
public $$$ to the local community.

Senator Yee’s Legislation SB1527 is doubly wrong.

It proposes we, as California State Citizens, sell OUR Cow Palace to Daly City so they can bulldoze it and profit by selling it to private developers. If that isn’t bad enough, SB1527 also deprives us of our RIGHT to use a facility that WE own!!

This is like selling off a chunk of Golden Gate Park because a nearby neighborhood proclaims “unanimously” it needs more space for development. It doesn’t work that way. We get to vote too…by writing letters and emails and calling his office. Officials can’t just decide to take a public asset and sell it…unless it is truly “surplus”. The Cow Palace is not “surplus”. We must stop this proposed sell-off of our property.

#1 Act Quickly. Senator Yee may believe he is serving the public, but he has only heard from Daly City. Let’s give him the other 99% of the picture before he gets any further down this road.

1. Write a Letter:Write to Senator Yee today. Quickly. Early letters are more powerful. Send personal letters to the address below the sample text at the bottom of this notice. Get it in today’s mail, so he receives it on Monday or Tuesday!
2. Write an Email: Personal emails may be sent via his website “contact” page. Emails are not as good as snail mail letters, but they are also effective. Be sure to write in “SB1527” as it is so new it is not on his issue list. …
3. Call the Office: You can pick up the phone and call his office.

#2 IF YOU LOVE THE DICKENS FAIR (and LEGION FANTASTIQUE, for that matter), forward this message to groups, friends and individuals and ask them to contact Senator Yee immediately.

#3 IF YOU LIVE in Senator Yee’s District #8 - see map. …Contact him AS one of his constituents,
(District 8 includes most of San Francisco in the West and South, and goes most of the way down the Peninsula). It is a very large district!

It’s always better if you personalize a letter (rather than just filling out a form letter), but here his a SAMPLE letter of what you can write:

Dear Senator Yee,

As a California Citizen, and resident of (…your
city…), I object to your proposed legislation to
“sell the California Cow Palace”. While you may
be responding to the needs of Daly City, please
respect my rights to use this public
facility. It may need work, but how many
California public buildings need upgrading? If
you want to help Daly City bring in new
supermarkets and shopping to the area, let the
Cow Palace deal directly with developers and Daly
City to make use of the 13 acres the Cow Palace
doesn’t need. This will preserve my rights while
helping the lives of local area citizens. It
will also continue the flow of millions of
dollars into the local economy annually. These
revenues, generated by me and many thousands of
others who use the Cow Palace, also help pay for
police to patrol the area year-round as well as during big events.

Please reconsider SB1527. There is a better way
to help Daly City and Bayshore than destroying
the Cow Palace. I use it every year and plan to
continue to use it for many years to come. It is
not “surplus”; it is a vital community and cultural asset.

Legion Fantastique’s public exhibition was a success! With visits from Don Diego de la Vega, Annie Oakley, and even Prince Albert himself…Legion’s tiny museum has certainly become the talk of the town. Despite all the excitement, bally-hoo and death threats, #7 Saville Row has become a haven for Scientists, Explorers, Adventurers, and Imaginative Artists!

“I am exceedingly proud,” proclaimed Phileas Fogg in a public address, “my comrades and I believe that we have left a positive mark on the world with our journeys, artifacts and inventions! We have even recruited an elite core of young people who shall be rewarded for their adventures next year!”

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the doors to #7 Saville Row shall be once more locked up tight until next November. Meanwhile, Fogg and his Legionaires shall continue pursuing new frontiers in Science, Exploration and Imagination!

La Legion Fantastique welcomes its latest assemblage of Steam Explorers - Weapons specialist Lady Almira Inchcombe, her companion - the enigmatic “Captain Mouse” (Captain of the airship H.M.S. Chronabelle), Ann Marie Savage, and a courageous gentleman known only as “The Saber” (our security officer, John Strock, is working on deciphering this man’s true identity).

Lady Almira and “Captain Mouse” secured “The Black Dossier” for themselves with their fascinating steam jet pistol! Miss Savage and “The Saber” were awarded scientific tools and anthropological samples for their contributions to Legion!

Legion Fantastique entertained an incredible assortment of visitors, including the pilots and engineers of The Neverwas Haul. Captain Nemo, Robur, and Prof. Flockmocker will soon be working with the Neverwas crew on their latest inventions! Mr. Fogg is pleased to announce an alliance between these two great organizations…but that’s another story.

During the 3rd weekend of Dickens Fair, La Legion Fantastique will be holding the very first “Steam Explorers’ Contest”.

Saturday, Dec. 8 2007, come to the Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco, CA and wear your finest Steampunk / Jules Verne gear! Come find us at La Legion Fantastique, and show us your gear!

Only one person will win this year’s prize - a hardcover copy of Alan Moore’s latest graphic novel : “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier”.

Judging begins from 11am - 3:30pm. The winner will be announced at 4pm at Legion Fantastique! Our judges, the Legionaires (Captain Nemo, Robur the Conquerer, Ned Land, etc.) will be happy to meet you and learn more about yourself and your kit / invention(s).
